Sermon Text: Matthew 18:21-35
To what extent should you and I forgive someone? Jesus' answer is simple, yet so difficult at the same time: Always forgive. Forgive your brother or sister from your heart as you have been forgiven by God.
We have been forgiven a debt that was impossible to pay, just like the servant in this week's parable. Our response should be like Ebenezer Scrooge from the end of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol: lavishing generosity out of our abundance of joy and gratitude. Our very souls are at stake when we choose not to forgive, but God's lovingkindness in forgiveness shines brightly when we lavish the same forgiveness on our brother or sister. May we entrust ourselves to our good Father and choose to forgive from the heart as we have been forgiven by God.
