Sermon Text: Jeremiah 31:31-38
Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words? Whether it be on a special day, like a wedding or the birth of a child, or while taking in a spectacular view, we all have moments where words just do not seem to work the way we want them to. And typically this is when we rely on words and phrases that we have used before. We repeat them, even if they cannot capture the essence of the moment.
The author of Hebrews does this same thing. Throughout his book, which is most precisely described as a sermon waiting to be preached, the writer repeatedly describes Jesus, his character, and his work with one word: "better". Because Jesus is better. But that leaves us with two questions; "How is Jesus 'better'", and "What is He better than?"
This sermon introduces the book of Hebrews and its main theme, "Jesus is Better", providing a map of the book's outline.
