Sermon Text: Hebrews 4:14-16
Hebrews is an incredibly powerful, yet somewhat vexing book. It requires some understanding of Israel's history, as well as a fluency with the Mosaic Covenant. It is a nuanced letter filled with Old Testament quotations and allusions. So why should we as modern readers give ourselves over to studying it? One benefit to diving into the book of Hebrews is that it trains us to read the whole Bible in light of Jesus Christ. As we read from the beginning we anticipate how Jesus might fulfill all that is written. And as we read from the end backward our eyes are trained to see what was written of old in light of the incarnation of the Messiah.
